A new chapter

A NEW CHAPTER IN 2025.

Back in 2018 I was living in Galway, Ireland along the Wild Atlantic Way (and it truly is wild). There are far more “soft days”, meaning those days filled with some light rain and a gentle mist, than there are sunny days. By naming my business, Soft Day Media, I thought it would be a lovely nod to this tiny part of the world that welcomed me as I was starting to place a few roots. To me, the name also left space for potential both photography & film to grow as, honestly, I wasn’t exactly sure where my creative work would take me nor wasn’t 100% clear on who exactly it would be for.

[2020, Knocknacarra, Galway]

Now, seven years later (!), things are a bit clearer. Over this past recent year especially, I have had the pleasure of working closely with photographers who are more experienced and have an insightful eye that has helped me find my voice. While ever evolving, my creative voice and vision feel stronger, and the people and their unique stories I am drawn to now make up a majority of my work. So, perhaps inevitably, it feels like this moment in my business is the right time for a change.

I will now be working under my own name, Laura Griffin Photography!

Putting my name to my work feels important as it is work that contains glimpses of how I personally experience the world, and what that looks like when it is mixed with your different environments and stories. It truly is something unique.

With the new name comes a new logo.

The thread symbolises our visual stories that we carry with us through life and the unpredictability of where it goes and where it will take us.

It is a constant that is unique to each of our journeys and is a way to ground us and bring us back to who we are if/when we feel lost.

Moving to Laura Griffin Photography is just the next unraveling of my creative thread. It isn’t about leaving Soft Day Media behind, rather looking back on the work I have put in so far as SDM, and enjoying this stage as I start creating with a clearer vision and voice.

Here’s to documenting many more of our stories that are yet to unfold with sincerity, honesty and beauty.
